A major concerning issue that has been weighing on me for some time now is the poor representation the Hispanic community receives throughout the United States. As unfactual propaganda has been spreading lately were it vows to vilify and criminalise the Hispanic community. Slander like calling us thieves, aliens, etc. is empowering the misinterpretation that we are a plague to society. Individuals who have a discredited view of Hispanics tend to amplify the misinterpretation as they use social media or other outlets to falsely inform public opinion. A major influence can be seen in our own president, who seems to have an agenda to completely discredit and criminalise every Hispanic in this country. Through his various speeches or even social media posts, he rants about how we are a burden to society and only bring a rise in crime. A major falsification that can also be seen is the hatred towards Hispanic immigrants who come to this country looking for asylum or even a better life. Society has labeled them as aliens or drug dealers. However, this unjustified claim is time and time again proven false by many Hispanics. In reality, they are hard-working individuals who keep this country afloat by doing the jobs no one wants to do.
As a Mexican American whose parents were both born in Mexico, this matter has great importance to me and my fellow Hispanic Americans. We are the voice for those who can’t speak up or are afraid to talk about the injustices that have been going on in our country. The fear that we saw in our families and friends in these past couple of years is something we should wish to never happen again. Especially in the way our government pushed for unjust methods to apprehend Hispanic immigrants. As seen with ICE’s continuous inhumane methods of influencing the hearts of many Americans and even taking the lives of multiple individuals. Even if you are not of Hispanic descent, you are a bystander to the cruelty imposed by our country to again and again try to influence the continuous vilification of this hard-working community, who happily strive to be proper members of society. Howver their are many rising communities who are backing the Hispanic people and helping the message get across that they are an important necessity for our society to function. To them, I am eternally grateful, as their efforts will not go in vain as everyday people begin to realize how great many of us are.
