A recurring issue in life is that various distinct problems are bound to happen no matter what we do. Issues will always occur; that’s what we people call “life”. Like others, I have the same recurring issue of problems arising. At the moment, my biggest concern or obstacle, you could say, is the matter of college tuition. The idea of having that large sum of money owed and me being the one having to pay it has drastically increased my stress levels, as it’s a major weight that I have to carry. However, it’s also a major influence in pushing me to absolutely try my best in any class that I have, because failure isn’t an option. Even taking it more chill, like in high school, isn’t an option either, as poor commitment or effort now has drastic consequences. A major reason, too, is the new change in FAFSA that has caused a decrease in money available to students. This has also worried me a lot more, as I know the help that I was hoping for may not really be there anymore.

Similarly, other problems that affect me are the misconceptions and mistreatment of the Hispanic community. As a Mexican American who sees and faces them, it’s very devastating knowing what many people perceive of us. Especially in these past couple of years, with the rise of ICE’s aggression and how individuals looking for asylum or a better life are being mistreated. I’ve had my own personal encounters with the mistreatment and the fear of knowing what they could do. Most notably, last year, in 2025, when they were going rampant in the state of California. The fear and devastation I saw, and still see to this day, are truly saddening. The idea of us being seen as thieves or aliens is unfair. Most of us are hard-working individuals looking to give their family better life

An issue I am starting to see is the increase in heat waves and how truly global warming is taking effect. Especially these recent days in the City of San Diego, this increase in weather is not normal. When I asked local individuals, they stated that “it’s usually not that hot”. However, that “not usually” will soon become the norm due to a lack of care or concern from the world. I believe it to be a major problem, as it not only hurts us as humans, but it hurts the whole ecosystem
